Accounting Software Reviews to Check Out

Small business accounting software With millions of small businesses using QuickBooks accounting software, it’s become the de facto standard for managing small business finances.

That’s why I thought you might find two recent reviews of QuickBooks products to be of value:

Review of QuickBooks Premier 2008

Review of QuickBooks Online

I wrote one of the reviews, and Neal O’Sullivan (who has joined me writing here at the Facteon blog) wrote the other.

Most businesses still use the desktop version of QuickBooks, although I understand from interviewing the QuickBooks people that the online version is growing fast.  But even the desktop version that you install locally on your computer or your company servers, now offers the ability to transfer files back and forth with your outside accountant securely over the Internet.  It also offers built-in features to allow you to pull directions from Google Maps and create listings for various yellow pages applications.  In short, the gap between your desktop and Web-based activity has gotten a lot shorter and easier to accomplish in all versions.

The more recent versions of QuickBooks offer better reporting and planning tools.  They help you better manage not only keeping your books straight, but many aspects of running your business including budgeting and cash management.

If you already are using a recent version of QuickBooks or other accounting software, you may not be ready to upgrade yet.  But if your software is more than a few years old, it’s worth taking a look at these new versions.  Enough has changed recently that you could gain efficiency and better oversight in operating your business by upgrading.
